When was the last time we used these words: typewriter, slide rule, correction fluid, carbon paper, duplicating machine, masters (referring to those horrible purple-y things we used in duplicating machines),adding machine, encyclopedia, thesaurus and dictionary? Now we speak of spell check, printers, calculators, delete, word processing, and copiers. Our children don't even know what those other things are!nednoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4808375493800890797.post-2303934641032989882009-11-24T08:03:43.745-05:002009-11-24T08:03:43.745-05:00Would that be a literal rendering of the Latin?Would that be a literal rendering of the Latin?annenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4808375493800890797.post-12603666566693283242009-11-24T00:24:56.769-05:002009-11-24T00:24:56.769-05:00Language, like most living things, evolves. I'm actually pondering unfriending someone because she's someone I work with (well, actually she's a client within the university), and now we're friended I feel like my boundaries are too porous. I'll explain to her, and she's the kind of person who would understand.

I think "disrespected" or "dissed" filled a gap in English. I use it. But then I also work with someone who still says "groovy," and it actually sounds cool when he uses it. I never used it back in the sixties, and I'm not picking it up now.

So, language is going to evolve, but I don't have to use every word that comes down the street! ;-)just another piskiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11114240498737481553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4808375493800890797.post-11063766548575700952009-11-23T21:21:13.874-05:002009-11-23T21:21:13.874-05:00Reminds me of the kids that say "he disrespec...Reminds me of the kids that say "he disrespected me," or he "dissed me."Faithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13945662015612932618noreply@blogger.com
