The fall line for 2007
Most of my vestments are simple and monochrome, depending on overlay stoles to add color and contrast. As you can see above, the pope's closet offers more interesting possibilities! Actually, these vestments (and matching vestments for concelebrating bishops and priests) were designed in Austria for the pope's recent visit there. These bright colors were worn at a Mass at Mariazell, a Marian shrine. Although blue is not a standard liturgical color, some countries use blue vestments on Saturdays (a day of Marian devotion) and on feasts of the Blessed Mother.
I'm not sure if these colors would work with the warm colonial hues in our church, but maybe for our outdoor Mass in the backyard of the rectory!
