Word for the Week of October 28

I will wake the dawn!

A new Word for the Week is posted in the sidebar, verses from Psalm 57.

This is the prayer of one who wants to be rescued. Though most of us are not in imminent danger of harm, many pray for God to rescue them from illness, depression, worry, anxiety, fear...

Those who need not pray to be rescued might pray these words for others who do...

This is also a prayer of confident faith in which the psalmist prays to sing the dawn awake in in praising God. Sometimes a familiar or favorite psalm or hymn can waken the dawn of God's presence within us.

What hymn or psalm wakes God's presence within you?

  1. There's something about Psalm 23 that I have always and will forever love -- maybe because it's sort of a comfort zone.

"Holy, Holy, Holy!" is one of my most favorite hymns as is, "Be Thou My Vision".

  2. The Canticle of the Sun, and just about anything written and/or recorded by the monks of Weston Priory in Vermont. (High exposure during childhood will do that. ;) )

  3. For me there are several hymns because, I have come to realize, that I pray best with music...but the one standout is You are Mine (David Haas)...It has pulled me out of the depths of grief, sadness, and despair on many occasions...For one entire year I played it in my car EVERY morning on my way to work...it became my anthem and always reminded me that no matter how deeply I fell, no matter how much pain and sorrow, no matter how much sadness there was, God was right there with me...

  4. 'Be Not Afraid' is definitely one that helps me. It is not really sung very often at church (or as much as I'd like), but when it is, I am grateful. It was just a couple of weeks ago, I think, and I REALLY needed to hear it- though I was not conscious of it until the music began- I felt like letting out my tears, but they were only inside.

I also remember babysitting for a little boy who listened to this song at bedtime, and I believe his mom would sing it with him too.

  5. A number of songs "wake the dawn" within me: The Litany of the Saints (which we'll be singing this Thursday on the holy day); the Exsultet at the Easter Vigil; Christ Be Our Light; Lord,You Have Come to the Seashore;Precious Body, Precious Blood; Silent Night;Only This I Want...

  6. I love a lot of the same songs that the pastor does and You are mine. I have them in my car and play them all the time. Whenever I am afraid I just start singing.

It's great to have so much to go back to when fear tries to creep in....Yaweh I know you are there. Always at my side.....
