This scripture from Luke offers good counsel for us as we face the next month and try to balance what we spend on gifts for those who often need nothing and what we give to the poor who often need everything.
The verse from Luke and the image of these coins speaks volumes about how we all too often treat one another today. We hear the bashing of many less fortunate as being lazy and living off the system. Those that voice these sentiments should participate in a process called the "Food Stamp Challenge" where you actually experience feeding yourself on approximately $100/month. Think about that next time you check out at Whole Foods and you have about 10 items totaling that amount.
