Word for New Year's Week
You'll see at the top of the sidebar that I've posted the Word for this first week in the new year. This text is the second lection from the Feast of the Holy Family and is well-suited for our prayer and reflection as a new year begins. Anyone looking for "resolution material" might begin with this scripture passage - or here and here.

I am leaving home early April to start walking some of the Chemin of St Jacques in France. I am collecting up a few bits of writing, and songs, to help inspire myself when the going gets tough. The scripture reading you have put up for the New Year seems one I could take and ponder.
ReplyDeleteKiwi: be sure to remind us when you are closer to leaving on your pilgrimage! That's a blessing to know that you would take a scripture from our virtual bible here as a vademecum.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you'll send us some "views from your windows" along the way!
I have to 'confess'. I am not exactly a churchgoer. I probably see my walk more as a 'walk' than a pilgrimage. But there will be time to think and pray as I walk.
ReplyDeleteKiwi...
ReplyDeleteOne definition of pilgrimage is "to journey to a sacred place" I think anytime we journey to a place that invites us into deeper thought and prayer, we are indeed making a pilgrimage!! I am sure many of us who frequent this blog would like to hold you in prayer during your pilgramage in April... please be sure to let us know when you are leaving...and know that you carry our thoughts and prayers with you as you journey...
Thank you for posting this wonderful scripture passage, "ConcordPastor". It feels like a wash of water pouring over me when I read it. A great way to start the new year. Happy New Year to you!
ReplyDeleteFor Kiwi (I hope you're still checking back on this blog) I'd suggest two of my favorite songs to take with you. The Lord Is My Light by Christopher Walker and My Soul In Stillness Waits by Marty Haugen. Psalm 25 is also a good one, "To you, O Lord, I lift my soul." I find all these help in times of struggle or when needing help. Have a great trip.
Thanks ned and flutist for your support. I am not sure about either of those songs but will try and find them. I have some songs by a New Zealand priest that I find inspiring, especially when I have sore feet at the end of five hours walking!
