Friday of the first week of Lent

I'm sure there are many fans of Jane Austen out there and I thought they might appreciate her words here as a Lenten reflection. And her words have much to offer all of us...

Incline us, O God,
to think humbly of ourselves,
to be severe only in the examination of our own conduct,
to consider our fellow creatures with kindness,
and to judge all they say and do
with the charity which we would desire from them ourselves.

What do Jane Austen's words mean to you in Lent 2008?

  1. "...and to judge all they say and do with the charity which one would desire from them ourselves." All too often many of us fall victim to quick/rash judgment(s). I hear so much gossip in these increasingly stressful economic times. We should not forget that: there but for the grace.....
