Voting: a moral obligation

As the graphic for the LINKS section of the sidebar reminds: this is Super Tuesday and it's time to vote!

Catholic Christians have a responsibility to exercise the franchise and to vote with a view towards promoting a society that is free and ruled by law; marked by liberty and responsiblity; dedicated to justice and equality for all; and protective of both the individual and the collective.

Catholics should look upon informed participation in the election process as a serious moral responsibility.

  1. I woke to the sound of rain on the rafters this Super Tuesday morning. I hope the sentiment can guide cynics to use their votes to add, like raindrops, to a river of hope and new promise. Do you remember this song? It came ringing from a childhood memory as I meditated to the sound of rain this morning....
    Joy Is Like The Rain
    (D Em A7 D) I saw raindrops on my window
    (G Em A7 D) Joy is like the rain.
    (G D) Laughter runs across my pain {ed: yes, a pun, not a typo!}
    (A A7 D A7-Bm)Slips away and comes again.
    (Em Em7 A7 D) Joy is like the rain.

    I saw clouds upon a mountain
    Joy is like a cloud;
    Sometimes silver, sometimes gray,
    Always sun not far away.
    Joy is like a cloud.

    I saw Christ in wind and thunder,
    Joy is tried by storm.
    Christ asleep within my boat,
    Whipped by wind, yet still afloat.
    Joy is tried by storm.

    I saw raindrops on my window
    Joy is like the rain
    Bit by bit the river grows,
    Till at once it overflows.
    Joy is like the rain.

  2. I voted. I must say that no matter who wins it will be an improvement over this administration, which, in my opinion, will go down as the worst ever in the history of the United States, bar none.

  3. To anonymous, I respect your opinion, but give credit where credit is due. This administration has done an admirable job of protecting and respecting the life of the unborn. In all likelihood it will not be this way in future administrations.

  4. I voted today. I brought my 86 yr old veteran dad. He would never miss because of the weather!
    Thanks Agnes for that trip down memory lane!!

  5. The current administration may, in the opinion of anonymous 5:09 pm, done much to protect the unborn, but it has done nothing to respect the life of the living.

    Sorry to weigh in late on this but the above comment makes no sense on any level I can reach.

    First, the unborn are living, so we have an apparent contradiction here.

    Second, the notion that the current administration by whom I believe the poster means George W. Bush has done "nothing" to protect the life of the "living" (by which I presume the poster means those who have left the uterus) is...shall we say, a tad over exaggerated?
