Word for the Fifth Sunday of Easter
Although this Sunday's gospel does not refer to its setting, this is part of Jesus' discourse at the Last Supper. This rendition of the scene by Bassano gives us an earthy group of fishermen, sated and perhaps too full of wine, gathered with Christ on the night before he died. Taking in this scene, it's easy to imagine these men falling asleep in the garden when Jesus asked them to stay awake and watch with him in prayer. Time to get ready to celebrate Mass this weekend for the Fifth Sunday of Easter. The best way to begin to prepare is to read and study this Sunday's scriptures and background material on those texts.
Got kids? Here's a resource to help them prepare for this Sunday's Mass.
And I hope you clicked on the image for that larger version!
