Word for the Week of April 20

The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone...

Perhaps especially in our own times, we reject what is counter, spare original and strange. We too easily throw out what does not fit our preconceived notions of acceptability. Christ himself was rejected and yet has become the cornerstone of the church, a church built of living, precious stones - like you and me...

What do we reject? throw away? discard?
Whom we we reject? throw away? discard?
What, who is precious in our eyes? in God's eyes?

How easily do we discard ourselves?
How easily do we discard the church - or our place in its foundation?
How easily does the church discard its own?

Do we understand that we are being built into a spiritual house? a royal priesthood? into God's chosen people? Do we allow the Lord to build us into that spiritual house?

Is the Lord the cornerstone of our lives?
