Manny Ramirez is headed to Hollywood.

The Red Sox finally parted ways with their disgruntled slugger, sending him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a startling, three-team trade Thursday that brought Jason Bay to Boston, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

Pittsburgh gave up Bay and wound up with four young players, the person said on condition of anonymity because no official announcement had been made.

According to Baseball Prospectus, the Dodgers also get $7 million from the Red Sox. The Pirates get prospects Andy LaRoche, Bryan Morris from Los Angeles, and Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss from Boston.

  1. Manny is an excellent ball player, but did not appreciate the millions he has earned. The Red Sox do not need the attitude and behavior of Manny, and hopefully will do better without him.

  3. I wouldn't want to try to second-guess what God thinks of Manny but of this I am sure: God loves Manny Ramirez.

  4. Manny's departure is sad for Boston on many levels. Sad because he did not value and appreciate the committed fans in Boston or the team that served him as well as he served them; sad because we are loosing a good player who refused to use his talents to the best of his ability when things did not go his way; sad because he felt the need to berate the team as "not good enough to have him"...but as CP has said God still loves Manny Ramirez and he calls us to do the same!

  5. I hope Jason Bay will have a stellar game tonight and for his whole Red Sox career! I think too often players get too big for their britches and I believe that was the case with Manny. Baseball is a sport that requires a team effort and each player should keep that at the forefront instead of taking unnecessary ego trips.

  6. Going to the game with my husband tomorrow...I'm excited to see Jason Bay play. A friend of mine, a flight attendant, has met Manny's wife traveling to games with the kids. They got talking about church. Manny's wife says the whole family goes to Mass every Sunday....but only during the off season!! Catholics have an off season??!! Seriously, I'm sure it's difficult for them.

  8. Going to Mass in the "off season" is more than many Catholics do.

In fact, it's more than MOST Catholics do.

The sad fact is that fewer than 30% of Catholics in the US go to Mass on Sunday.

(Now, who would have guessed that the Manny post would take this interesting turn?)
