I hope you haven't been distracted by all the Assumption Day material from your studying the word for this coming weekend! Make sure you take a look at the scriptures and background material as you prepare for worship on the Lord's Day.
Of this Sunday's texts John Kavanaugh, SJ writes at the site linked above:
Isaiah announced a God whose salvation and justice would be open to aliens. “For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” Thus, the psalmist wrote that all nations would come to praise God. St. Paul, in his reconciling claims of Jew and Gentile, reminded the Romans that a more universal truth of God’s mercy is revealed in the failures of both. You'll need to click the link to see how hungry dogs, sitting under the dinner table waiting for a snack, figure into this take on salvation history!
Got kids? Here's where to go to help them prepare for this Sunday. If you have a dog or your child knows a family with a dog - there's a great image here to start the conversation.

Love this photo! When I was about seven years old, my best friend at the time and I decided to have a wedding of our dogs. My dog was a "boy" named Rusty. My friend's was a "girl" named Chris. We put a bow tie on Rusty and a white veil on Chris. The telephone book was the Bible. We invited several of the neighborhood kids to attend the ceremony under a mulberry tree. This picture brings that memory back to me...Chris in her veil!
