Word for the Week of August 10

Usually I don't post the Word for the Week (see the sidebar) until Saturday but I'll be en route tomorrow on vacation for three weeks. I'll still be posting here but at a slower rate.

This week's Word is the action-packed center of this Sunday's gospel passage. Take a few minutes with this text and see the rapid exchanges of feelings, faith, trust, doubt, confidence and saving mercy that take place between Christ and Peter. See if you can imagine this scene in slow motion, looking for the moments each of us has known in our faith lives and discerning where in that scene we find ourselves this week...

Wherever you find yourself, note that the story ends with Jesus rescuing Peter "of little faith" and the apostles in the safety of their boat with Christ at the helm...
