Daily Advent Evening Prayer: Second Thursday
Image by SAANGA
Rorate caeli is a classic Advent text and is given a beautiful musical setting here by Schutz. Listen to how the musical line begins as a light "rain" and increases in density, to how the earth quakes open (aperiatur) and gives birth (germinates) a Savior!
Rorate caeli desuper,
Rain down your dew, you heavens,
et nubes pluant justum.
and you clouds, rain down the just one.
Aperiatur terra,
Earth, be opened,
et germinet Salvatorem.
and give birth to the Savior.
O God,
let your healing soak me
like the rain:
your mercy, a heavy downpour,
your reign, a summer shower
Soak me, drench and all but drown me!
Leave me dripping
with moist anointings
of your touch:
my toes and every inch of me
refreshed and cleansed
in healing showers
Lift my face to rejoice
in the rain of your love:
let me drink it in
and drink it down,
deeply
Give me thirst
that only you can quench
and lead me
to a river of your blessings
Rain, rain,
rain of my savior:
oh, never go away...
Rain down your dew, you heavens,
and you clouds, rain down the just one...
Earth, be opened
and giver birth to the Savior...
Our Father
