I pray a happy Passover for our Jewish brothers and sisters! Passover begins at sundown this evening and concludes at nightfall on April 16.

For a quick study of Passover, take a look here.

Christians keep their celebration of Passover in the Paschal Triduum which begins at sundown, tomorrow, on April 9 and ends with Evening Prayer on April 12.

  1. My father always loved matzah spread with a thin layer of butter. He would have it as a snack year-round. He came from a German Catholic background. His father owned a beer and wine shop in Louisville, KY that supplied the altar wines to all of the Catholic churches in Louisville, as well as to the Trappist Monastery at Gethsemane. I don't know how he developed this taste for matzah. When I see the Jewish specialty food displays in the grocery store, I think of my father. Sometimes I'll buy a box of matzah myself!

  2. Chag sameach in Hebrew... Gut yontiff in Yiddish.

Happy Pesach to those who celebrate Passover and will have Seder tonight. For many years I lived near many Jewish friends and relatives and I never missed a Seder. Now I am in a new place and have not had one to go to.

Perhaps, as the Hagadah tells us, "next year in Jerusalem."
