Plan B for Notre Dame Commencement
UPDATE: Rocco has more on this story. The University of Notre Dame has announced its resolution of the problem created when intended Laetare Medal recipient Mary Ann Glendon declined the honor and the invitation to ND's commencement in light of the university's plan to award an honorary degree to Barack Obama. I am anxious to hear from the Concord Pastor----
ReplyDeleteWill be interested in reading both President Obama's and Judge Noonan's remarks from Notre Dame graduation. All I can say is: "Congratulations to Fr. Jenkins for keeping a cooler head when all about you are losing theirs!"

"Anonymous" anxious to hear from Concord Pastor:
ReplyDeleteAs you would know from my previous posts, I am disappointed in the decision my alma mater made to honor President Obama and consider it a mistake.
Until today I thought ND had two options:
1) drop the Laetare award from the 2009 commencement program
2) name another recipient for the 2009 Laetare medal
ND has come up with another option which seems reasonable to me. It will be interesting to see what Noonan does with his time on the commencement platform.
