Word for the Weekend - May 17
Image: Skriptshirts
It's not too early in the week to take a peek at this coming Sunday's scriptures for the Sixth Sunday of Easter.
You'll find the scripture texts and background on them here and if you're shepherding youngsters to Mass this weekend, take a look here for some help in preparing children to hear the Word.
The first reading, from Acts, recounts a domestic scene in which the household of Cornelius receives the gift of the Holy Spirit and is baptized. (Not the way we schedule baptism and confirmation
these days!)
The second scripture, from 1 John, is a brief lesson on love and how God's love is ours through Christ. "Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love..."
The gospel is from John and also focuses on love: "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends..."
Gives one pause, doesn't it?
