Ever met this guy?

Found this at The Deacon's Bench about a week ago and meant to post it before now. As Deacon Greg noted, this is not a how-to on the new evangelization!

  1. That was a riot!

Just what I needed to start this rainy morning.

I bet you wish you could do that once in awhile...

  2. Hah! Well not really. I saw that awhile back on the blog of an Episcopalian friend of mine.

As I began my job as parish secretary, with a big dose of ambivalence (and now I love it!) in December, a priest that I know told me that two people had the greatest power to evangelize well, or lose people. Those two people would be the pastor and the secretary.

I have come to think that he was right and I treat my job with some reverence as a result of it all!

Now get out of my office!! (I kid!)

  3. Thankfully I have never personally met anyone quite like this, CLOSe maybe but not exactly!! I so agree with Fran...the person who answers the phone in a parish can make or break it...that person has to be a pastoral minister par excellence!!!

  4. We have had two people join our RCIA group in the past two years because a secretary in another parish was so brusque and unfriendly when they were asking questions. Staff really need to think about how their responses to people walking into the parish office or calling on the phone make such a difference.
With that being said, I did get a good laugh at the response in the video and fully understand how satisfying....at least temporarily... it would be to bark at someone!

  5. I just must not have any humor this morning. I did not like this. I was surprised at the language used and that it was posted here.

  6. I'm rather shocked that some of the commenters are envious of the vicar in this piece. Do you really want to throw people out? Wow.

It seems to me that the priest in this video represents everything that Jesus wouldn't like -- exclusion, judgment, inhospitality.

    *shakes head*

It's also pretty close to home for us Piskies. There's quite a movement trying to push out the nice women in the colorful jumpers in our church, and those doing the pushing too closely remind me of the angry violent cleric in this video. Very sad.
