Edward M. Kennedy - R.I.P.

O God, to whom mercy and forgiveness belong,

command that Edward be carried safely home to heaven
and come to enjoy your eternal reward.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

  3. Thanks for posting the digital tribute to Sen. Ted Kennedy's life, Fr. Fleming. I think I've learned more about his life after his death, than I knew while he was still alive. Truly, a remarkable man, and a poignant reminder that we must continue to strive for service, even in the face of our all-too-human shortcomings. Only God can say for sure, but it gladdens my heart to think that at least one of the Kennedy brothers lived a long, full life. God bless you, Ted Kennedy.

  4. I, too, feel that I'm learning more about his life after his death than I knew before...

This blog is making me a more informed, more curious, more interested (and more trusting and faith-filled) person.
    Thank you.

  7. I believe the other commenter was referring to this post - it's the only thing I've posted on Kennedy.

  8. The recent commentary about funeral liturgy caused me to pay particular attention to the following posted on WBZ-TV Boston website.

    "THE PRESIDENTS

On Saturday, President Barack Obama will deliver the eulogy at the invitation-only funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica, popularly known as the Mission Church, in Mission Hill. That service begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be carried live on WBZ-TV and wbztv.com.

Former Presidents George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are expected to attend Saturday's funeral, in addition to former vice presidents Al Gore and Dan Quayle. President Obama's Cabinet is also expected.

    THE SERVICE

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and tenor Placido Domingo will perform, as well as a contingent from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a soloist from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

The Rev. Donald Monan, chancellor of Boston College, will be the principal celebrant of the Mass. The Rev. Mark Hession of Our Lady of Victories Parish on Cape Cod will deliver the homily and Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley will lead the final prayers of commendation. "
