Latest on Vatican study of US women religious

Rocco has the latest detail on the Vatican study of the life and ministry of women religious in the United States. For a look at the questions which some 300 religious communities will answer, take a look at the post at Whispers. The document also invites each of the nation's 50,000-plus sisters to confidentially "express an opinion about some aspect" of her community, "in writing and with signature."

  1. Do you know how this study of US women religious compares in complexity and extent of information to be gathered to the recent study of seminaries in the US?

Somehow it seems as if this is an inordinately in-depth look at women religious.

  2. *sigh*

Hi Rosemary (and CP!)- I read this post and the comment from Rosemary and thought of this post.

  3. Rosemary, that's a really good question. I also wonder how this inquisition compares to the thorough investigation of the bishops, the clerical culture, the environment, and the structure in the US patriarchy that enabled and covered up the sexual assault on thousands of our children, from coast to coast, for many decades.

    Oh...wait...that wasn't necessary.

  4. Michael: wrong sort of venue for comments like that. Audience.

That said, perhaps this Vatican is slowly starting to realize that a modicum of change is necessary in order to modernize and keep pace.

  6. Local C, I am curious. Why is this the wrong venue for my comments? What is the proper venue? What makes you think the Vatican "is slowly starting to realize that a modicum of change is necessary in order to modernize and keep pace"?
