God hung among thieves...

To be connected with the church
is to be associated with scoundrels,
warmongers, fakes, child-molesters,
murderers, adulterers
and hypocrites of every description.
It also, at the same time, identifies you
with saints and the finest persons of heroic soul
of every time, country, race and gender.
To be a member of the church
is to carry the mantle
of both the worst sin and the finest heroism of soul
because the church always looks exactly as it looked
at the original crucifixion:
God hung among thieves.

Oh indeed. I read the book some time ago and did not recall this line. Then I saw it on Blue Eyed Ennis almost two weeks ago and have used it numerous times since.
ReplyDeleteI also used it in my reflection offered at Evening Prayer at my parish the other night.
It fits, it fits.
This is excellent! God help us all..
ReplyDeleteIf there is something good then there will be something bad. Law of nature like it or not. In God we trust no matter what.
