Yesterday the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops elected Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York as their new president, setting aside a well established custom of electing the out-going vice-president, in this case, Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tuscon.
In the blogosphere, this has been the source of much commentary which has often generated more heat than light.
