It's hard to believe that the Fourth Sunday of Advent is just ahead of us!
The first lesson and the gospel are linked by Isaiah's words, "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel." The gospel, from Matthew, offers up some of the precious few details we have concerning Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. The second lesson confirms that Jesus came for Jew and Gentile alike. For the texts of these scriptures and commentary on them (especially for Isaiah and Matthew) check the St. Louis Center for Liturgy page.
Bringing children to Mass with you? Check the Sadlier page for hints on helping young ones prepare to hear the Word at Mass.
Later this week I'll be posting more on Joseph's role in the Christmas story. This Sunday's scriptures are a good place to begin to understand this man's part in salvation history.
