Word for the Weekend: Trinity Sunday

This coming Sunday, the first after Pentecost, is always celebrated as Trinity Sunday.

The scriptures for the day and commentary on them can be found here.  Bringing children to Mass with you?  For hints on helping young ones prepare to hear the Word, check right here.

This Sunday's readings are among the shortest of the whole liturgical year.  That's an extra reason to read and ponder these texts ahead of time lest they're over before you know it in church!

As you know, the Trinity is a mystery, revealed by God, but not something we can fully understand.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church begins to address the mystery of the Trinity here.

In a lighter vein, here's some verse from a Catholic poet known for his strong orthodoxy. While not a theological exposition, there's a simple, homely theology at work here.

Delight in this and enjoy!

A Trinity

Of three in One and One in three
My narrow mind would doubting be
Till Beauty, Grace and Kindness met
And all at once were Juliet.

- Hilaire Belloc

  1. Great poem and yes, full of meaning and humour.
Counterintuitive ending is what we need here methinks and forsooth
    All these woes shall serve
For sweet discourses in our time to come ?
    Blessings
