Memories light the corners of my mind...

Photo: RT

I've recently blogged and prayed over the joy of having old friends visit and come to Sunday Mass here in my parish.  Well, it must be the season for reunions!  Yesterday Richard and Ethel were here from Danvers, my home town, where they still live.  Our friendship stretches back to elementary school days although we've seldom seen each other since high school graduation.

A significant exception was when I was invited to be part of their wedding, 39 years ago, in the Armenian Church where Ethel was a member.  As you can see from the photos below, I was a deacon at the time -- and a lot younger!

Now, about that photo at the top of the post!

Richard and I were classmates and one year we went on a field trip to -- Concord!

Nowadays, Concord students go on interstate and international field trips but back in the day, a bus ride to the rude bridge that arched the flood was a big deal.

Yes, that's yours truly on the North Bridge -- sporting a tricorn hat! At that point in my life I would never have dreamed that one day I'd be a priest, the pastor of a parish just a short walk from that same bridge...

It was a joy to see Richard and Ethel and to remember the good old days: so many names, so many stories, so many memories...

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

  4. Don't forget that Concord gets approximately 1 million visitors a year. How many of those are school trips I don't know. To a lot of folks we're still worth visiting.

Love the photos of the youthful Austin!
