Word for the Weekend: October 14

Image: ChurchPowerPoint

It's midweek and time to read and study the scriptures to be proclaimed at Mass this coming weekend.

You'll find the texts of the readings and background material on them here. If you'll be shepherding youngsters to church this weekend, take a look here for hints on helping children prepare to hear the Word.

Do you ever wish you were wiser in the decisions you make? (I do!)  Well, this week's first reading from the Book of Wisdom should help us deepen our desire for wisdom and the gifts she offers us. The day's gospel from Mark tells the story a rich young man who asks Jesus for the wisdom needed to inherit eternal life but the Lord's reply disappoints him and he goes away sad. Wealth and wisdom: oil and water? A hard question for us just as it was for that young man...

The second text of the day is one of a series of six readings from the Letter to the Hebrews. It's only two verses long but gives a stunning definition of the power of the Word of God.

It takes but a second to click on the links above - and just a few minutes more to read over and become familiar with what the Lord will speak to us this weekend at Mass. Make the time for the click and reading - you'll be glad you did!
