The Word for Christmas
And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. (Luke 1: 4)
The Roman Catholic Lectionary provides four sets of readings for the Masses of Christmas, arranged for liturgies celebrated at different times of the night and day:
The Vigil Mass
Mass at Midnight
Mass at Dawn
Mass During the Day
The Lectionary also provides for interchanging these readings at different times, based on pastoral need. (For instance: in my parish we'll use the Midnight readings at 4:00 p.m., Midnight, and 10:30 a.m.)
Background material on these scripture can be found here.
And see this earlier post with regard to the Christmas story in the four gospels.
