A simple blessing - for everyone

Pope Francis meets with media: AP

Pope Francis has had his first "press conference." This wasn't a Q/A but rather a papal audience for those who've been covering the story of the transition in the papacy.

Grant Gallichio over at dotCommonweal reports that the pope concluded the audience rather stunning fashion:  Instead of offering his apostolic blessing aloud, he gave it in silence, acknowledging (in Spanish) that “not everyone present is a member of the Catholic faith, and others do not believe.” He continued, “I respect the conscience of all of you, knowing that each one of you is a child of God. May God bless you."
Stunning, indeed.
