If you say, "I love God," but hate your neighbor -
you're a liar.
For if you don't love your neighbor whom you have seen
you can't love God whom you haven't seen.
- 1 John 4:20
It is a fearful thing
to hate
whom God has loved.
To look upon others—
whom God has loved.
To look upon others—
their weaknesses,
their sins,
their faults,
their defects—
is to look upon their suffering.
They are suffering from negative passions,
from the same sinful human corruption
from which you yourself suffer…
Don't look upon others
with the eye of judgment and comparison,
with the eye of judgment and comparison,
noting the sins you assume you’d never commit.
Rather, see others as fellow sufferers,
fellow human beings who are in need of the very healing
you yourself need.
Help them, love them, pray for them:
do unto them
as you would have them
