Pause for Prayer: SUNDAY 12/29

Audio for today's Pause for Prayer

Could be the post-Christmas blues, Lord,
or maybe some end-of-the-year doldrums
or just a little here-comes-January anxiety
but whatever it is
it comes my way this time each year
and leaves me 'specially in need
of gifts of your grace...

Christmas prayer's not over yet:
the Holy Family just stopped by
and Wednesday's Mary's New Year's feast
with the magi's journey not yet done -
they're still on the horizon...

I need your grace to get me through,
your star to lead me to your peace,
and if you've got a few spare angels
send them my way, Lord,
to guard and guide me through
these cold and sometimes lonely wintry'
days and nights...

Give me a shepherd's faith
to watch my flock and at the same time
seek you out and find the place
where you are born where I live,
where I work, where the everyday is longing
for your Word made flesh among us...

Let no clouds cover the glory revealed
when hark the herald angels sang
the hopes and fears of all the years
were met, made one and healed
in Bethlehem and, I truly pray,
right in my own heart...

Give me the faith I need to trust
your arm's around my shoulder,
pulling me the closer to your side
and that in the year ahead you'll be right there
with gifts of grace to guide my step
and fill my heart with peace
and even now and then with joy...

Amen.

  1. Dear Father Fleming,

I wanted to start this new year by thanking you for all of the years you ministered to my family, for bringing my husband and sons into the faith, for giving my children their first confession, their first communion, for bringing the depth of Christ's love to my soul through the sacraments. It must be a ponderous weight to be so close to the sacraments, to minister to people at the beginning of life and at its end and through all of the trials and joys of their lives. God bless you for the love and care you've given all of us.

    Yours truly,

    Beth Lorenz

  2. Thank you for your kind words, Beth - they are much appreciated! Less a ponderous weight, the sacraments are moments of God's grace and presence and are truly uplifting. Praise God from whom all blessing flow - and Happy New Year to the Lorenz family!
