The magnificence of one magnolia

How carefully, exquisitely,
you sculpted this one blossom, Lord,
and millions more you'll bring to flower
all around the world...

This bloom will last a day or two, no more,
and then begin to fade, its magnificence spent
in praising you and pleasing us
for whom you made it...

My life span is much longer yet I fail
to match magnolia's simple beauty,
so help me, Lord, to spend myself
in pleasing and in praising you who made me...
