Time to look at this coming weekend's scriptures for the Sixth Sunday of Easter.
You'll find the scripture texts and background on them here and if you're shepherding youngsters to Mass this weekend, take a look here for some help in preparing children to hear the Word.
The first reading, from Acts, recounts a domestic scene in which the whole household of Cornelius receives the gift of the Holy Spirit and is baptized. (Not the way we schedule baptism and confirmation these days!)
The second scripture, from 1 John, is a brief lesson on love and how God's love is ours through Christ. "Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love..."
The gospel is from John and also treats of love: "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends..."
Now that's love... gives one pause, doesn't it?
