Word for the Weekend: March 13

This coming weekend brings us to the Fifth Sunday of Lent.

We are currently in Year C of the Lectionary but parishes preparing for baptisms at the Easter Vigil have the option of using the readings for Year A for several weeks, including March 13.

So, parishes using Year C readings will find the texts and commentary here while parishes using Year A readings will find their texts and commentary here. Bringing children to Mass with you this weekend? Hints for helping youngsters prepare to hear the Word can be found here (sorry - Year C lections, only).

The first lesson this weekend (Year C readings) sounds themes of Exodus and waters flowing in the desert: hints of what's to come in our Holy Week celebrations. The words from St. Paul were written when he was in prison and in danger of death and are thus profound words of faith in the most dire circumstances. The gospel, from John, tells the story of the woman caught in adultery - a sobering story for us sinners as we approach the end of Lent.
