Depending on your geography, your parish is celebrating either the Seventh Sunday of Easter this weekend - or Ascension Day. Scriptures for both possibilities are found here, commentary on these texts here, and tips for helping children here.
(In the US, the Ascension is celebrated on Thursday of the sixth week of Easter (May 5, 2016) only in the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Omaha. In all other US dioceses, the celebration of the Ascension is transferred to the following Sunday, May 8, 2016.)
The photo above shows us Venus, the "morning star." Venus reaches its maximum brightness shortly before sunrise, for which reason it is often called the Morning Star. In the closing verses of the Book of Revelation (this Sunday's second scripture in places observing the Seventh Sunday of Easter) Jesus images himself as "the bright morning star."
