The picture came 9 years ago from a reader who then lived in Brookline, MA. It's a night shot whose darkness reveals more than any daylight photo might have shown.
I was immediately taken with this side-street scene : a street lamp burning star-like above, over a doorway spilling a splash of light into the darkness outside: light to light in the darkness...
The lamp and the entry way, the star and the dwelling, the royal beauty bright - and a door upon which to knock...
Here's my reflection on this telling, Epiphany photo...
Were you confused? The light spills into the night and beckons, calling out:
Did you wonder if you'd taken a left instead of a right?
Had you misjudged the star's GPS?
Was it all a big mistake?
Could this really be the street? the house? the door?
This way! Come this way!Teach us your wisdom, Magi:
Let go your thoughts
of all that should have been,
what might have been,
and open your hearts
to all that is and all that will be.
Open up to where he is,
and where he dwells within you
in the warmth of his light
on this chilled dark night...
Open our eyes to the star aboveAmen.
and to the glow of his presence living
just across the street,
lighting the path we walk each day,
lifting us up and out of our darkness
into the radiance of his holy face...
