Pause for Prayer: SUNDAY 7/29

Today's Pause for Prayer is musical.

In my parish, we plan the music at least 6 weeks ahead of a particular weekend so this song was scheduled for our prayer on July 28/29 long before I knew what I might be preaching. The choice of this piece, however, is very faithful to the day's scriptures: those who hear today's readings and listen to these lyrics will see how well they pair.

My homily addresses the hungers in our hearts as people of the Church as we witness yet another scandal unfold before us.  We do indeed need Christ to be our Light, shining in our hearts, shining through the darkness, shining in the Church gathered today...
