Yesterday, your touch was in the air, Lord!
In the sunshine and the warmth,
in the scent of fresh laid mulch,
in folks about in lighter clothing,
- in the very air I breathed!
Especially, Lord, in the mulch:
that earthy, pungent, dark, rich odor,
redolent of spring times past,
promising lighter, sweeter fragrances
yet to bud and bloom
but stirring nonetheless
in the ground and on the branch...
For your presence in the mulch, Jesus,
your buried presence,
stirring deep within the earth and in my soul,
for your rising presence, I thank you, Lord!
Bud forth, then, and burst open this springtime
and renew my hope and trust in you...
Amen.
