(After the funeral of a parishioner,
a friend, a good man, a brother in Christ...)
It was a long day, Lord,
a thoroughly draining,
gracefully fulfilling
robust day of grief and grace,
of Word and words,
of Sacrament and sacramental moments
too many to count,
mingling and merging
in silence and song,
in tears and laughter,
and in a trombone's velvet sound,
all sealed with embraces
and promises to hold one another,
in faith and love
because our hope is in Jesus
in whose light
there is no darkness,
in whose life
there is no death,
in whose love
we all are one
for ever...
For all the ways
you touched our lives today, Jesus,
I give you thanks and praise.
Amen.
