NIGHT PRAYER: Friday 6/5
Warm nights, Lord:
windows open, fresh air,
moonlight in my room,
fewer covers on the bed,
birds chirping at dawn's first light...
Warm nights, Lord:
a welcome change in season,
a prayer finally answered
with promise of more to come...
Warm nights, Lord...
Will you let the warmth melt stone-cold hearts?
Might a change in seasons change us, too?
Will the promise of justice, this time 'round,
be real, concrete and truly for all?
Warm nights, Lord:
coming together in unity, making the opportunity
to stand as one, to speak our truth,
to sing and pray with one, strong voice:
the time has come, the time has come,
now long past due, the time has come...
Warm nights, Lord, sometimes fan the flames
of violence and anger
so I pray tonight for passion's course
to walk a path of courage and conviction,
welcoming all, harming none,
following in your footsteps...
Protect us when we gather, Lord,
and walk us safe back home
that after keeping watch with you
we sleep 'til dawn in restful peace...
Amen.
