NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 7/7
Been thinking about the little things, Lord,
the little things folks do that bring me joy and peace
- and the message that I'm loved...
Like my new sneakers (which aren't so new)
a birthday gift from friends a few months back:
every time I put them on I remember how they arrived:
in a large bag, on my socially distanced doorstep -
3 pairs of the same shoes in 3 different sizes
- to ensure I'd have the right size, right away, on my birthday...
(And yes, my friends returned the two pair that didn't fit!)
Little things like that, Lord,
little things that bring me joy and peace
- and the message that I'm loved...
You're like that, too, Lord:
while I'm praying to win the lottery,
to be a different person than the one you made me to be
and for a miracle or two -
you're doing little things for me every day
to bring me joy and peace
- and the message that you love me very much...
Open my eyes, my ears and my heart,
my imagination and my prayer -
to see the little things you do,
to hear the grace that comes in whispers,
to know your presence in my heart,
to sense the little ways you tell me, every day,
how much you love me...
As the sun sets and this day ends, Lord,
help me look back upon the little things
you've shown, spoken and done for me,
and let me not miss one of them!
Help me dream about the little things, Lord,
the little things that bring me joy and peace
- and the message that I'm loved...
Protect me, Lord, as I lie awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.

I Am Grateful for the Little Things by Teresa Jennings
I am grateful for the little things
like seashells and puppies and snow.
I am grateful for the little things like taking a walk,
for sounds that a baby makes when learning how to talk.
I am grateful for the little things
like running and laughing and fun!
It's the little things that matter most,
they're really not that small.
In fact -- they're the biggest of all!
For stars at night, for birds in flight,
for memories of days gone by,
for Saturdays and camp fires,
for songs that make me cry,
for my family, for my country, for the Fourth of July,
I am grateful!
I am grateful for the little things
like flowers and rainbows and hugs.
I am grateful for the little things
like breathing a sigh, for kittens and holidays,
and eating pumpkin pie.
I am grateful for the little things
like smiling and dancing and joy!
It's the little things that matter most,
they're really not that small.
In fact -- they're the biggest of all!
It's the little things that matter most,
they're really not that small.
In fact -- they're the biggest of all!
I'm grateful!
