Pause for Prayer: SATURDAY 7/25

The Archies are probably best known for their hit, Sugar, Sugar but it's a less well known song that will help us pause for prayer on this morning. Summer Prayer for Peace was recorded in 1970, when the world's population (as the lyrics note) was around 3 billion people. That number has doubled over the past 50 years, serving only to double the importance of this song's message, this song's prayer.

Indonesia, 112 million
United Kingdom, 55 million
California, 18 million
Laos, 2 Million
Three billion people together forever
Three billion people sing a summer prayer for peace

France, 50 million
Japan, 101 million
Australia, 12 million
Oh look, look around you
See what we have done?
Where's the world that God intended with love for everyone?
Three billion people together forever
Three billion people sing a summer prayer for peace

South Africa, 19 million
Canada, 20 million
Mexico, 47 million
Russia, 237 million
Ireland, 2 million
New York, 18 million
Illinois, 10 million
China, 732 million people
Sing, oh sing of freedom
Sing a song of joy
All together making better what some would destroy
Three billion people together forever
Three billion people sing a summer prayer for peace

North Vietnam, 16 million (How will it end?)
