NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 9/17

Just yesterday and today, Lord,
when speaking with friends who've just lost a loved one,
I shared a prayer from our funeral rites,
a particular favorite of mine:
Trusting in God, we have prayed together for John
and now we come to the last farewell.
There is sadness in parting
but we take comfort in the hope
that one day we shall see John again
   and enjoy his friendship.
Although we may leave here in sorrow,
the mercy of God will gather us together again
in the joy of his kingdom.
So, let us console one another
in our faith in Christ Jesus...
Every time I pray these words at a funeral, Lord,
my heart is filled
   with comfort and consolation,
   hope and promise,
   divine assurance and joyful expectation...

My faith is renewed:
it's your desire to reunite all of your own
whom you've called home to yourself
and I'll enjoy again the love of family and friends
who've passed over to life forever with you,
those whose love has filled my heart and shaped my life...

For so great a gift, Lord,
for so wonderful a promise
and so sweet a hope,
I give you all my thanks and praise
for the gift of life forever...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me as I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

God Be With You Till We Meet Again sung by Selah

God be with you till we meet again
By His counsels guide, uphold you
With His sheep securely fold you
God be with you till we meet again

God be with you till we meet again
'Neath His wings securely hide you
Daily manna still provide you
God be with you till we meet again

Refrain:
Till we meet, till we meet
Till we meet at Jesus' feet
Till we meet, till we meet
God be with you till we meet again

God be with you till we meet again
When life's perils thick confound you
Put His arms unfailing 'round you
God be with you till we meet again
