Pause for Prayer: THURSDAY 9/3

I hate it, Lord,
when bad things happen
to good people...

   (Actually, Lord:
   I hate it
   when you allow bad things to happen
   to good people,
   when you allow hard times to come their way...)

I don't even like it
when bad things happen
to people who aren't so good...

And I especially hate it, Lord,
when our hope and hard work,
aspirations and good will
come face to face
with pain and loss and shattered dreams...

So,
   when mountains seem too high climb,
   when rivers seem too wide to cross,
   when sickness upsets every plan,
   when the best intentions get shot down,
   when pain seems more than we can bear,
   when sadness sinks to ocean depths,
   when all our hard work seems for naught,
   when every day is Groundhog Day,
- be with us, Lord...

Be with us,
for apart from you we're hopeless
and in you is our only hope,
our way, our truth, our light...

Be with us, Lord, we pray...

Amen.
