NIGHT PRAYER: Thursday 10/1

(There are two full moons this October: 

tonight, October 1, and Saturday, October 31)

 

Day is done, Lord,

day is done...

Autumn evenings, crisp and cool,
turn the leaves and turn my soul
in tune with season's change...

 

I remember this day's noontime warmth

so I offer thanks and praise

for October's hues and simple joys...

The night's chill breeze shakes leaves from trees

and sweeps the chambers in my heart:

fall cleaning for my soul...

 

Day is done, Lord,

day is done...

 

In your holy outstretched arms, Lord

hold close all those who lean on me

and all those, too, who care for me...

 

Protect us, Lord, while we're awake

and watch over us as we sleep;

may this night's moon, so full and bright,

look down on us in peace

as we keep watch for your return, 

as we await the dawn...

Amen.

Death may come, in love's safekeeping still we abide. 

God of love, all evil quelling, sin forgiving, fear dispelling, 

Stay with us, our hearts indwelling, this eventide.
