This evening, Lord, I hold in prayer
all the folks who gather each night
by the light of my virtual candle...
I don't know how many we are,
I don't know everyone's name,
but of this I'm sure:
we're here, together,
in a holy communion of prayer,
needing to share what troubles our souls
and keeps us awake at night;
seeking the words to give a voice
to what weighs on our minds, in our hearts
we're grateful for others who understand,
who share one faith, who trust in you...
What we share makes a chapel
of all that we pray and offer:
our laptops, tablets and phones are the pews
where we gather in silence
'til it's time to click "play"
and offer our evening hymn...
For this time, this place and this people,
for this prayer we offer together,
I give you thanks and praise, Lord,
you who wait without fail every evening
to welcome us into your presence,
to hear and answer our prayer...
Protect us, Lord, while we're gathered in prayer
and watch over us while we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
