Oh, the depth of the riches
of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments
and unfathomable His ways!
For who has known the mind of God?
- Romans 11:33-34
Oh, to know the mind of God!
If only for a moment we might know:
how you see what we see;
how you understand
what we can't comprehend;
how your will permits
so much that you don't want;
how all things will resolve
by your grace, in your own time...
Your thoughts - too deep for us to plumb,
your judgments - far beyond our ken:
we cannot know the mind, O God,
we cannot know your mind...
So, we're left to attend to your word,
to faithfully seek your wisdom,
to discern and act on your will, Lord,
and to walk the path you promise
will lead us at last to your peace...
Does that mean, then, Lord,
that we do know your mind?
That we can understand your plan for us?
That you call us to live in the mystery
of finding and living the truth you reveal
by your grace and in your own time...
Oh, the depth of the riches
of your wisdom and knowledge!
Inscrutable your thoughts and your ways!
Yet to us, O Lord, you speak your word,
a gift of wisdom, undeserved.
You hint, you disclose, you invite us to find
your way, your truth and your life!
To you be all the glory, Lord
from whom all blessings flow!
Protect us, Lord, while we're awake
and watch over us as we sleep
that awake, we might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...
Amen.
I Stand In Awe by Martin Layzell
1) Who can know the mind of our creator?
Who can speak of wonders yet unseen?
Who can reach the height of understanding?
To play the notes of wisdom’s melody?
2) Who has weighed the dust of every mountain?
Who has walked the mysteries of the deep?
Who has laid the earth on its foundation?
And who conducts the waves upon the sea?
I stand in awe of You
I stand in awe of You
So glorious and true
I stand in awe
I stand in awe
(Repeat 1, 2)
3) You have seen the end from the beginning
You have been before the world began
You have reached to me within my darkness
And in the light of mercy now I see
