Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 4/30

Held in arms that don't let go

To be found by eyes seeking mine,
recognized for who I truly am,
known and called by name...

To be loved (no strings attached),
forgiven, freely and fully,
embraced with warmth and strength...

To be held in arms that don't let go:
who among us doesn't long
for such a love?

In so many different ways
(some obvious, some subtle)
we all desire just this kind of love:
we hunger for it, thirst for it
and sometimes (all too often)
deny it or discard it
when it comes within arms' reach
of our hesitating doubt and fear...

But we'll seek it once again
and yet again,
always searching for the one
whose arms will hold us close
- and not let go...

Every welcome, warm embrace,
every longed-for lover's clinch,
every friendly hug and squeeze
soon will loosen and let go -
all save the arms of One
whose strength will never fail,
whose love will never end
whose embrace is far more perfect
than all we've dreamed
or hoped or prayed...

Every healing hug we find
is but a shadow and a promise
of the love we seek again
and yet again
until we fall into those arms,
those everlasting arms.
that will never let us go...

                 . . .

Our hearts are restless, Lord,
so very restless,
until they rest in you...

Amen.
