NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 5/1

You know the prayer, Lord:
to accept the things I cannot change
and to change the things I can...

Tonight I'm grateful because today
you gave me the grace
to accept some things I couldn't change,
and to change some things I could...

And I'm grateful because you helped me see,
gave me the wisdom to see,
the difference
between what I could and couldn't do...

What a load off my back
when I laid down the burden
of things I couldn't do...

What newfound strength to approach the doable
with so much more confidence
in what I knew I could accomplish!

I've no doubt you offer me such wisdom
at least a few times a day, Lord,
but many more are the times when my pride,
my conceit and my ambition get in the way
and I waste energy and time
chasing down rabbit holes after quarry
I'll never catch...

Wisdom, Lord! I know I need lots more of it!
And I know that only the grace of wisdom
has led me to understand
just how much more wisdom
I truly need...

Wisdom, keen insight, counsel,
 good judgment, discernment, vision,
mindfulness, understanding, perception:
any and all of these, Lord, I need and pray for
- and I pray for the grace to be aware, to notice,
to receive and to use such gifts
when you drop them in my lap,
in my thoughts and in my heart...

How precious is your wisdom, Lord,
and how grateful am I for such grace
to lighten my load and bring me today
the serenity, the gift of your peace...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake, I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

The Perfect Wisdom of Our God by Getty/Townend

The perfect wisdom of our God,
Revealed in all the universe:
All things created by His hand,
And held together at His command.

He knows the mysteries of the seas,
The secrets of the stars are His;
He guides the planets on their way,
And turns the earth through another day.

The perfect of timing of his ways
Along the path of rightousness,
His word a lamp unto my feet,
His Spirit teaching and guiding me.

And, oh, the wisdom of the Cross,
To save the helpless and the lost,
He chose the fool to shame the wise
And all the glory might go to God.

Oh grant me wisdom from above,
To pray for peace and cling to love,
And teach me humbly to receive
The sun and rain of Your sovereignty

Each strand of sorrow has a place
Within this tapestry of grace;
So through the trials I choose to say:
"Your perfect will, in your perfect way."

Each strand of sorrow has a place
Within this tapestry of grace;
So through the trials I choose to say:
"Your perfect will in your perfect way."
