NIGHT PRAYER: Tuesday 9/7

The trees in my neighborhood
are still as green as they were a month ago, Lord,
but I know that's not for long,
that soon enough you'll paint them in fall colors
and they'll put away their summer togs
'til springtime comes again...

I'm grateful to have noticed all the green, Lord,
grateful to take in, these last few days,
what I love so much and soon will surely miss...

Some years, it seems, there comes a day
when suddenly I realize
a thousand shades of summer's green
have slipped away and with them my last chance
to bid a fond farewell to emerald hues,
July's and August's jewels, so freely shared
with all who walk beneath their leafy arms...

Teach me to be grateful in the moment, Lord,
for all my many blessings,
for all the gifts you share with me, day in, day out,
in every season of the year...

Teach me to be grateful, Lord,
for what I have, for all I have today
and not to miss or take for granted
the many gifts that come and go
- and come again -
whose passing leaves my a heart a lesser place
until a new day's blessings come to heal
the emptiness that only you can fill...

Teach me to be grateful, Lord,
for all the simple gifts that fill my life:
for each day's blessings sent to ease
    the burdens each day brings;
for the gracious balm you send to heal
    my wounds, both old and new;
for the passing joys that lift me up
when hard times hold me down...

Teach me to be grateful, Lord,
for all the ways you care for me,
the simple ways you're with me every day:
in a thousand shades of green,
    in autumn's burst of color,
in a bare branched winter landscape,
    in a snowflake's unique beauty,
in the buds of early spring
    in every season, every year...

Teach me to be grateful, Lord,
for all gifts come from you;
    every blessing I have known,
every joy that's filled my heart,
every grace that I might hope for...

Protect me, Lord, while I'm awake
and watch over me while I sleep
that awake I might keep watch with you
and asleep, rest in your peace...

Amen.

We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land
But it is fed and watered by God's almighty hand.
He sends the snow in winter,
the warmth to swell the grain
The breezes and the sunshine, and soft refreshing rain.

All good gifts around us
Are sent from Heaven above.
Then thank the Lord, thank the Lord for all his love.

We thank thee then, O Father,
for all things bright and good:
The seed time and the harvest,
our life our health our food.
No gifts have we to offer for all thy love imparts
But that which thou desirest,
our humble thankful hearts.

All good gifts around us
Are sent from Heaven above.
Then thank the Lord, thank the Lord for all his love.

I really wanna thank you Lord!
All good gifts around us
Are sent from Heaven above.
Then thank the Lord, oh thank the Lord for all his love!
