I've been thinking, Lord,
of how kind and generous you are,
forgiving and compassionate...
And I'm thinking about that
because I'm remembering
how often I need your merciful pardon
to wash away my sins
and your amazing grace
to fill the holes and and patch the cracks,
that riddle the walls of my heart...
This isn't false modesty, Lord,
I'm not being scrupulous or hard on myself
and I'm not fishing for compliments...
Just a little fact-checking inventory
revealing how often I'm
slow to reach out to others,
quick to care for myself,
often biased in reaching conclusions,
"thrifty" in sharing and giving,
sketchy in some of my choices,
hearing impaired when you call my name,
ever ready to criticize others,
much too lenient in judging myself...
And still, you persist in loving me,
forgiving my sins large and small,
offering new beginnings,
giving me second chances,
back to square one,
fresh starts and clean slates
- no matter how often I fall...
How kind and generous you are, Lord
full of compassion and mercy:I deserve none of this - it's all pure gift -
and for this I praise and thank you!
Amen.

Loving and Forgiving by Scott Soper
Loving and forgiving are you,
O Lord;
slow to anger, rich in kindness,
loving and forgiving are you.
1. All my being bless the Lord;
bless the holy name of God.
All my being bless the Lord,
remembering the goodness of God.
2. God forgives us all our sins,
healing those who live in pain,
saving us from final death.
God fills us with goodness and love.
3. Good and gracious is the Lord,
slow to anger, rich in love.
God remembers not our sins;
forgiving and loving is God.
4. As heaven soars above the earth,
so great the love of God for us.
As far as east is from the west,
the Lord takes our sins from us.
