Little wonder, Lord,
that difficult days sneak up on us
- and take us by surprise -
when we're a people thrown for a loop
when snow falls deep on a winter's day...
Of course, we know the storm will end and,
even after blizzards,
the snow and ice will one day melt
and soon enough the spring will come
and melt our wintry woes...
So help us, Lord, be not surprised
by storms and snow that come in drifts
on the landscape of our hearts
and help us trust your warmth will heal
our hurt and pain, our loss and grief...
Whatever takes us by surprise
and knocks us off our pins,
prepare us for a season, Lord,
of your healing grace and peace,
a spring thaw in our souls...
Amen.
